Betty Overton-Adkins, Ph.D.

Provost

Dr. Betty Overton-AdkinsBetty J. Overton-Adkins currently holds the position of provost for Spring Arbor University. She received her Ph.D. in educational leadership from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Her undergraduate and masters degrees in English are from Tennessee State University. She has done further study at Harvard University and the University of Michigan.

Overton-Adkins is active in higher education, serving on the Commission on Higher Learning of the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities (NCA), the board of the American Association of Higher Education (AAHE), and the editorial board of Liberal Education, published by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). She has been a member of the Board of the Council of Graduate Schools, the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), and the Advisory Board of the Center for the Study of Higher Education at Pennsylvania State University. 

As provost, Overton-Adkins is responsible for all aspects of the academic program. She is known at SAU affectionately as Dr. Betty. She is the mother of two sons and the proud grandmother of four grandchildren.

Rod Stewart, MBA

Associate Vice President

Rod StewartRod Stewart is currently associate vice president for academic affairs and graduate studies at Spring Arbor University. He received his MBA from the University of Michigan. His undergraduate work was done at Hillsdale College in environmental studies.

Stewart wears many hats at the University as he assists the vice president for academic affairs with decision and policy making tasks, tracks faculty contracts, chairs graduate studies committees as well as many others. He is married to Peggy, an ISD educational consultant, and has two grown sons.

 

Toni Mathews

Executive Assistant

Toni MathewsToni Mathews is currently the executive assistant to the provost as well as coordinator of campus adjunct faculty services.  Mathews has a bachelor's in youth ministry with a music emphasis from Greenville College.

Toni acts as office manager, assists Overton-Adkins and Stewart in academic processes and is a resource person for the hiring and orientation of campus adjunct faculty. She is married to Rod, a pastor, and the mother of one son and two daughters.

Grace Ann Bolton

Special Event Coordinator 

Grace Ann BoltonGrace Ann Bolton is currently the special events coordinator within the academic community. She organizes all campus and off-campus commencement exercises as well as academic honors receptions and other academic celebrations.

Grace Ann is the wife of Bob, pastor, and the mother of one son and two daughters.
