Options for earning college credit
As you are working your way to the 58 credits you need to enroll in one of our accelerated degree completion programs, consider these options* as you plan out how you will get to your 58 credit goal.
Testing
By passing exams, you can receive college credit that will save you time and money during your college career. Please see your academic advisor for the costs of tests.
CLEP (College Level Examination Program): Exams are offered at various institutions. Contact the local SAU sites for details.
DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Tradiational Educational Support): Exams are offered on the third Saturday of each month through the SAU Registrar's Office (excluding December). Contact the local SAU site for details.
TECEP (Thomas Edison College Examination Program): TECEP exams are offered at most SAU sites. Contact the local SAU site for details.
NLN (National League for Nursing Achievement): Exams are available only to BSN students. Exams are offered at most SAU sites.
Distance learning/online
You can earn college credit by taking courses through the Internet. Contact your academic advisor for more information. SAU online undergraduate courses are $305 per credit plus registration fee and books.
Weekend College
Weekend College makes it possible for you to earn college credit through weekend classes. These classes are offered at convenient locations throughout Michigan. This unique delivery system offers an opportunity for working adults to attain academic credit. Courses are conducted in either a Friday-Saturday or Saturday-only format. Courses are available for $230 per credit plus registration fee.
Outside coursework
Register for classes on campus at Spring Arbor University or through an approved college/university. Please complete the transfer approval form prior to taking courses. For the cost of outside coursework options, contact your academic advisor.
Prior-Learning
Credit can be earned by writing prior-learning papers demonstrating appropriate college-level learning. Documented learning from professional training, seminars and licenses can also be evaluated for college credit.
Assessment fee for Prior-Learning Credits:
1-9 credits $30 per credit
10-19 credits $300 flat fee
20-30 credits $600 flat fee
*These options are for students needing credits in addition to the credits earned in the major. An Individualized Academic Plan (IAP) will be developed by you and your academic advisor.
