Students with Disabilities

College is meant to be hard, but when that difficulty of college is compounded with a learning or physcial disability, additional help may be necessary. Academic Student Connections provides various equipment and services to aid students with disabilities, and the ASC staff is trained to personally help meet the needs of students. The ASC professionals and peer workers can provide the following services:

  • Academic Advising
  • Specialized Equipment
  • Recorded Books
  • Alternative Testing Location
  • Course Tutorial Assistance
  • Note Taking
  • Reading Assistance
  • Mobility Assistance
  • Curriculum Modifications

American with Disabilities Act:

In compliance and agreement with federal regulations, Spring Arbor University provides ASC to direct the academic services for students with disabilities. This is done in accordance with Spring Arbor University's mission to serve students in order to help them maximize their God-given talents and abilities.

ASC personnel:

  • Consults with students.
  • Accepts, evaluates and maintains documentation (consistent with ADA guidelines).
  • Establishes or negotiates reasonable accommodations to reduce academic barriers for students.
  • Notifies professors of the necessary accommodations for the students in their classrooms.

Each year, students needing accommodations must notify Academic Student Connections of their continuing desire for services. (This includes giving timely notice of classes so that materials can be ordered and received in time for student use.) Requests for any type of textbook reproduction services should be scheduled two months in advance. Students are responsible for communicating with the ASC staff about their ongoing need for adjustment or about any modification of the established support plan.
