Students showcase final work through senior art shows
Oct. 16, 2009
Spring Arbor University’s art students Nicole Praniewicz, Adam Knapp and Leann Pickard will exhibit various artistic pieces as a part of their senior art shows at the Ganton Art Gallery. The shows open with a reception on Nov. 1, from 2-4 p.m., and will remain on display for two weeks.
Visitors will enjoy a collection of graphic design and photography pieces that reflect the students’ talent and potential as they prepare for graduation and look to pursue a career in the arts.

Praniewicz’s and Knapp’s collections will incorporate both photography and graphic design pieces, while Pickard focuses mainly on graphic design. “You will see a sharp, commercial edge to his (Knapp’s) photography. Nicole and Leann will exemplify the graphic designer’s motto ‘attention to detail.’” says Brian Shaw, chair of the
art department. “Viewers will find their work highly refined in both ideas and techniques.”
Praniewicz, who recently graduated from SAU, feels her pieces demonstrate her focus on commercial design, as well as some promotional work for nonprofit organizations. Praniewicz would like her nonprofit pieces to help promote the organizations as well as raise awareness about the different issues that each organization is concerned about.
Those viewing Knapp’s works should expect to see pieces that depict different portraits, landscapes and scenes he encountered on his cross-cultural program to Italy. Knapp hopes his pieces will convey the experience he had while creating each piece. Knapp will also showcase pieces that have been used by several businesses.
Pickard’s compositions represent her desire to create commercial art that can be used as advertisements. Pickard has an interest in the branding of a company or product and enjoys creating pieces that reflect the identity of a person, place or thing. Pickard is passionate about her work and hopes they have a “wow factor” that will impress the audience.
The Ganton Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information about the exhibit, visit www.arbor.edu/artsatthearbor, or call 517.750.6580.
