Dec. 13, 2005 | Dorie Shelby, assistant professor of communication, taught a lesson in persuasion that aided two charities at the same time. Students in her freshmen speech classes researched and made presentations about charities. Dec. 6, 2005 | Rwandan genocide survivor and current University student Tim Niyonsenga will speak as Spring Arbor University's department of communication hosts a discussion about world events that focuses on the tragic African warfare. Short joined the board after being recruited by former University president Kenneth Coffman (1979-1987). Aug. 3, 2005 | Daughters learn a lot from their mothers — and Molly VanderBrink's story is no different. But VanderBrink's mom, Maureen McCarthy, taught her to teach. McCarthy has served St. Francis Xavier School in Petoskey as a teacher for 27 years. McCarthy began her teaching career at the age of 38 and has taught second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-grade.
