SAU campus students,
The following message offers continued clarifications and instructions regarding our decision to transition to remote learning. We desire to be as proactive as possible but will also continue to respond to your questions as quickly as we can.
As a reminder, our Spring Arbor campus remains open, and we will continue to support students in our residence halls and dining facilities at this time. We are asking all residential students to complete THIS FORM by Monday, March 16 to inform us of their general plans to remain in campus housing during this month of online instruction or to leave.
IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION:
If you are deciding to leave campus, please be mindful of where you are traveling and your potential exposure to the coronavirus. If you have been in contact with someone who has been to any of the countries listed at high risk from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), please do not return to campus. If you choose to leave campus for three or more days, you will need to notify Student Development and Success via e-mail at email@example.com prior to moving back on-campus.
HEALTH CONCERNS: In the event we have any symptomatic students referred for testing for the coronavirus, we will ask those students to leave campus until the tests come back negative.
CLASS INSTRUCTION: Professors should be communicating with students about how their online class will be structured by Sunday at 5 pm. Please regularly check your Blackboard and email. If you have questions about how your online class is being structured, please consult your professor directly.
CAMPUS FACILITIES: The following modifications to life at SAU will be in place from March 16 – April 14, unless noted otherwise:
- Most campus activities through SGA are canceled or modified. Watch your normal sources of information for updates on those events and for information about new activities designed for smaller groups.
- All competitions for all athletic teams will be suspended effective immediately, until April 1.
- The weight room and the fitness center will be closed.
- Library hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.
CLEANING: With regard to cleaning, our maintenance team is utilizing the CDC protocol called Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations (which includes COVID-19). We are wiping down all entrance doors and interior doors and handles every hour in all buildings (this includes the classrooms and bathrooms). We are also cleaning tabletops, light switches, and countertops several times a day.
There are steps residents can take to prevent the spread of the flu and the common cold that will also help prevent coronavirus disease, including:
- Washing your hands with soap and water.
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoiding contact with people who are sick.
- Staying home if you are sick and contact your healthcare provider.
Right now, there are no additional precautions recommended for the general public in the United States. COVID-19 symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure to the virus. They include:
- Shortness of breath
If you have health concerns or questions please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and contact your Primary Care Physician. The CDC recommends not going to any health center initially, but e-mailing, calling and/or scheduling a virtual appointment with your healthcare provider.
