Kelsey Penix, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of CounselingBio
I began my career as a sixth-grade teacher with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. When I realized how ill-equipped I was to address the mental health needs of my students, I chose to pursue a master’s degree in counseling. Because I longed to learn from a Christ-centered perspective, I completed the dual track program at SAU. Immediately after graduating, I was able to jump into school counseling, which I love. However, as a military spouse, I found that private practice and group practice counseling were often a little more flexible. While working in those capacities, I completed my doctorate in counselor education and supervision through the University of the Cumberlands. Because of that degree, I now get to combine many of my favorite things – being home with my kids, counseling clients, and training future counselors! |
