2019 Invitational Student Art Competition

Students reviewing artwork in Art Gallery

The Department of Art & Design at Spring Arbor University hosted an Invitational Art Competition with Huntington University and Taylor University on February 9, 2019. The juror for the competition was Kelly Salchow MacArthur, associate professor of graphic design at Michigan State University. In her presentation to students, she praised the “span of work using analog and digital tools.” She also noted the levels of experimentation and observational skills.

From 220 entries, 79 were selected for the exhibition. Of the eight awards designated by our juror, SAU won five, including Best-In-Show by Shan Shan Akamu and First Place by Christi Waldo. Other SAU student winners were Alyssa Thompson, Twila Kuperus, and Sarah Lotz. Please congratulate all of our students selected for exhibition and display in the Ganton Art Gallery.

The 2019 Invitational exhibition was on display through March 10. During the school year, the Ganton Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The gallery is closed for the holidays. We look forward to having you visit.
