Spring Arbor University director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach Ryan Cottingham has been named this year’s Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) College Coach of the Year, an honor he received at the BCAM Hall of Fame & Hall of Honor Banquet.

Cottingham was also a featured presenter at the 2019 BCAM Coaches Clinic. The two-day clinic took place at the O’rena on the campus of Oakland University on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13. Several notable presenters were alongside Cottingham, including Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo and Michigan head coach Juwan Howard.

On the heels of his team’s historic season, Cottingham spoke on “Championship Culture.” The Cougars’ head coach led his team to a 30-7 record in 2018-19 – SAU’s first 30-win season – and capped the record-breaking campaign with the program’s first-ever NAIA national title.

Spring Arbor opened the 2019-20 season on Oct. 25-26 at the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. The Cougars’ first home game will be Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Concordia University where SAU will honor the 2019 national champs with the championship banner unveiling.
