Bio

I have been teaching psychology at Spring Arbor since 1980. My first ten years of teaching I was also the Director of Counseling at SAU and I have also been the head men’s tennis coach at Spring Arbor since 1980. I have been the chair of the psychology department for over twenty years. My wife also teaches at SAU in the Communications Department.

Education

  • Ed.D.: (Counseling Education/Counseling Psychology) Western Michigan University

Why SAU

I see it as a blessing that I grew up in Spring Arbor watching my dad teach at Spring Arbor College, also in the psychology department. He loved his career here and part of why I feel so thankful about my time here is because he helped me to see what a special place Spring Arbor College/University is. My various responsibilities over the years (teaching/counseling/coaching/administration) have given me a healthy appreciation for the various roles within our community of over 1,000 employees. I love and don’t take for granted the ability that we have here to interact with students and help them determine a trajectory for their life. The opportunity that we have here to influence our students’ academic, social and spiritual development is a gift that I take seriously.
