CORE is crucial to how Spring Arbor University prepares you for a life of wisdom, as no other college can.
It’s a series of courses and countless experiences spread out over your time here, a process that challenges you to analyze your place in this world, ultimately shaping your motivations, goals and future. It will unify your passions to your knowledge, preparing you to critically participate in the contemporary world.
Core 100: Freshmen
Meet your CORE group — 15 new friends, 1 peer advisor and 1 faculty advisor who all serve as your family while you navigate your first semester. Go off grid and bond with each other during a weekend trip to Cedar Bend — an 1800’s farm in northern Michigan. Throughout the year, your CORE supports and challenges you to critically assess who you want to be. Discover what you stand for, learn to put others first, and begin a lifelong pursuit of wisdom.
Core 200: Sophomores
Explore the issues facing our world
In CORE 200, we stop talking about poverty and start exposing you to its realities. Central to the CORE 200 experience, the trip to inner-city Chicago or Detroit exposes you to neighborhoods in need of hope as much as food and funding. Meet with community leaders who embrace the people most of society ignores. CORE 200 stretches your religious, political and socioeconomic views, drawing you out of your comfort zone.
Core 274/275: Juniors
Travel to another country
Do more than study the world — experience it. CORE 275 commits you to a three-week adventure and takes you across the globe to see firsthand how another culture worships, learns, plays and lives. Visit monuments and taste the delicacies, but more significantly, meet the people, understand their struggles and share in their laughter.

Core 300: Juniors
Study spiritual formation
By your Junior year, you might be comfortable, but comfort can discourage growth. Dust off your Bible, explore your faith and seek its truths. CORE 300 challenges you to analyze what you believe, as well as why you believe it. Themes from creation, the fall and redemption go under the microscope as you discover the depth of a spirituality rooted in scripture and witness to history. Through CORE 300, you’ll endeavor to seek the Creator and walk in truth as his creation.
