Commencement Information

Commencement Ceremonies

Due to rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast through Saturday, the SAU Commencement ceremonies on May 11 will now take place in the McDonald Athletic Center (MAC).

Each ceremony will take place in the Arena. Graduates will now check-in prior to the ceremonies in Dunckel Gym (attached to the MAC). Please see the campus map that shows the location of events as well as parking options.

There will be a drop-off location on 2nd Street by the MAC. Accessible (ADA) parking will be located on the West side. All parking lots on campus will be open to commencement participants and guests. Shuttles will run 45 minutes prior to and after the ceremony.

The graduates will be divided into the following two ceremonies:

May 11 at 10:00 a.m. – Traditional campus students

May 11 at 1:00 p.m. – Graduate students who completed Doctoral and Master’s degrees, as well as Undergraduate students enrolled in programs online, via Zoom, or at SAU’s sites around Michigan and Ohio

Fall 2024 Commencement will be held in October 2024.

Baccalaureate/Cutting of the Ivy

A baccalaureate service is held the Friday prior to Commencement at 7:00 p.m. at the Arbor Church for on-campus students. Graduates should come in their regalia and should be seated in the graduate section. Their guests will sit in the back sections of the auditorium. The Cutting of the Ivy ceremony will be on the Plaza immediately following the service.

After a degree is conferred and posted to the transcript, diplomas are mailed to those graduates who have satisfied all financial obligations to SAU, including the return of textbook rentals and any fines applied after the semester concludes. Your Diploma will arrive 6-8 weeks following the conferral of your Degree.
