COVID-19 Status

Red Phase

We are in Phase RED which means there are high rates of infection and transmission on or around campus and support services in the area are being taxed. With this in mind, and to minimize the impact on our campus, we are asking the following:

  • Masks Indoors: Requested for unvaccinated individuals; optional but recommended for those vaccinated
  • Masks Outdoors: Recommended for unvaccinated individuals where close contact is unavoidable
  • Masks in SAU Transportation: Required for all individuals, regardless of vaccine status
  • Testing: Recommended weekly for those unvaccinated
  • Social Distancing: Consider increased virtual/remote meetings where possible
  • Large Gatherings Indoors: Limited to smaller numbers in larger spaces and generally spreading out (spread out every-other-row in Chapel)
  • Residential Policies: Commuters/residents from other halls asked to stay in public spaces; no more than 4 total in residents’ rooms; reduced capacity in hall lounge; guests NOT permitted
  • Athletics: Symptomatic athletes/coaches must have negative rapid test before practicing, traveling, or competing; a PCR is strongly recommended; masks required on SAU transit; masks recommended for unvaccinated spectators

Vaccinated Students Exposed to Covid:

  • No need to quarantine unless symptomatic
  • Test on 4th or 5th day after exposure
  • Wear mask in public from exposure until negative test results returned or 14th day after exposure

Unvaccinated Students Exposed to Covid in Quarantine (not able to be home)

Note: please get food to-go from the dining hall during the following meal times:

  • Breakfast = 7:15-8 am, 8:30-9 am
  • Lunch = 11-11:30 am, 12:30-1 pm
  • Dinner = 5-5:30 pm, 6-6:30 pm

Yellow Phase

We are in Phase YELLOW which means there are moderate rates of infection and transmission on or around campus and support services are operating generally well. With this in mind, and to minimize the impact on our campus, we are asking the following:

  • Masks Indoors: Recommended for unvaccinated individuals; optional for those vaccinated
  • Masks Outdoors: Personal preference for all individuals
  • Masks in SAU Transportation: Recommended for all individuals, regardless of vaccine status
  • Testing: Recommended monthly for those unvaccinated
  • Social Distancing: Group preference for employee meetings
  • Large Gatherings Indoors (including Chapel): Minimal limitations; seek guidance from SDS or HR for events
  • Residential Policies: Commuters/residents from other buildings are permitted to visit residence halls; no more than 4 individuals may be in a residence hall room; minimal restrictions in lounges; social distancing encouraged; guests are allowed
  • Athletics: Symptomatic individuals should be tested prior to practicing, traveling, or competing; must have a negative rapid antigen test to participate; masks recommended on SAU transit; masks are optional; social distancing should be emphasized

  • Test on 4th or 5th day after exposure
  • Wear mask in public from exposure until negative test results returned or 14th day after exposure

Unvaccinated Students Exposed to Covid in Quarantine (not able to be home)

Purple Phase

We are in Phase PURPLE which means there are extremely high rates of infection and/or transmission on or around campus (or currently experiencing an outbreak on-campus) requiring an intentional response. With this in mind, and to address the impact on our campus, we are implementing the following protocols:

  • Masks Indoors: Required for all in public spaces, unless all in the space are vaccinated
  • Masks Outdoors: Required for unvaccinated individuals where close contact is unavoidable
  • Masks in SAU Transportation: Required for all individuals, regardless of vaccine status; travel is limited unless essential
  • Testing: Required for anyone symptomatic
  • Social Distancing: Virtual/remote meetings where possible, unless all in group are vaccinated; social distancing highly recommended in meeting spaces
  • Large Gatherings Indoors (including Chapel): Limited capacities in meeting spaces; consider remote delivery where possible; guest access is limited
  • Residential Policies: Residents from other halls and commuters are not permitted to visit a residence hall in which they do not reside; limited capacities in residence hall rooms and lounges as posted; no guests permitted
  • Athletics: Consider limiting or postponing practices/events for defined periods of time; consider limiting travel; limited spectators and reduced capacities; concessions not permitted

Vaccinated Students Exposed to Covid:

  • No need to quarantine unless symptomatic
  • Test on 4th or 5th day after exposure
  • Wear mask in public from exposure until negative test results returned or 14th day after exposure

Unvaccinated Students Exposed to Covid in Quarantine (not able to be home)

Green Phase

We are in Phase GREEN which means there are generally low-to-no rates of infection and transmission on or around campus and support services in the area are being taxed. With this in mind, and to minimize the impact on our campus:

  • Masks in Any Setting: Personal preference
  • Testing: Recommended for anyone symptomatic
  • Social Distancing: No limitations
  • Residential Policies: Standard policies apply
  • Athletics: Symptomatic athletes/coaches should be tested prior to practicing, traveling, or competing
